Producer Mezzacorona is a driving force behind the quality of Trentino wines with a state-of-the-art winery handling estate-grown fruit from the company's extensive vineyard holdings in the heart of the Dolomites. The winery was recently named 'European Winery of the Year 2009' by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. The fifteenth-century Castel Firmian overlooks the Rotaliano plain in Trentino, and the wines named after it also give an overview of the region, with both international and local varieties on offer, all crisp and expressive.

Vineyard: Cabernet Sauvignon was introduced to Trentino at the end of the last century and has demonstrated a particular affinity to the region. The fruit for this wine comes exclusively from Mezzacorona's vineyards in the Arco area north of Lake Garda, an area especially well suited to cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winery: The wine underwent traditional red vinification with maceration on the skins for a period of eight to ten days, followed by temperature controlled fermentation. The wine was aged in French oak barriques for six to eight months.

Taste: Intense, complex flavour with spicy notes, hints of eucalyptus and sweet fruit, and a fragrant scent of oak. Well balanced and full bodied.

Pairing: Roasts, red meats, game and seasoned cheeses like Pecorino Romano or 36 month matured Parmesan.
